Still Talking about it!!
Hello Carl,

Thanks again for a great afternoon of trout fishing on your Private Creek two years ago. Wow, time flies! I plan to be in the area this year. A road trip to Durham is possible. So I'll book with you soon. If so I'll make every effort to book another trip with you as well. I've had several guided trout fishing trips in Montana and Idaho from a drift boat. I've also had guided bone fishing trips in South Andros, Bahamas, from a poled flats boat and wading trips with many guides. However, I had never had a personal guided wade fishing trip for trout like with you. In that regard, my trip with you was unique and there were several other factors that made the trip unique: It was on private waters so no competition; there were LOTS of fish and they were aggressive; you were very patient pointing out how to best fish the stream and quick to change flies after refusals; I caught more than 25 fish (at least 10 over 20"+) and the "grand slam" of brooks, browns, rainbows on nymphs and dry flies. Finally, the pictures you took and quickly emailed to me were icing on the cake!! By far, you made it the best day of trout fishing I've ever had!!!..... Actually, The Best Day Fishing I've Ever Had. PERIOD...

In my 75 years of fresh and salt water fishing, I have never had a better guide than Carl Freeman. He can expertly assist you to catch more trophy fish in a morning than most fly fishermen can catch in a lifetime.

WOW.
Thats all I can say about my day on the water with Carl, I saw the pics from previous fishing trips and I was like yeah maybe I'll get one big one if I'm lucky. That was not the case "FISH was a plenty", Carl had the necessary skills to put us on the fish. I caught four species of trout that day and it seemed to be a dream if it was not for the cold water, I would still think I was in dream world.
Thanks Carl, I will see you again.

I have fished with Carl on a number of occasions and always had a great time. He knows how to work with any level of expertise from beginning to advanced. Carl makes it easy to enjoy the sport. He works hard to put you on fish. His approach is to educate and ensure you learn from your experience with him. He makes sure every aspect of your trip runs smoothly. Carl is a first class guide and he has shown me some of the best fishing I have ever experienced.

I've known Carl Freeman for 9 yrs and have fished with him as a friend and guide. I have never met a more competent, aggressive, and supportive fishing partner/guide in my entire fly fishing career. When he has guided me and any friends, he is totally focused on helping you enjoy the experience. I have fished all over the US and have never caught the quality of fish that I have when fishing with Carl. If he hunts like he fishes, you're in for a treat. Tight Lines.

Awesome! Truly a day of fly fishing I shall never forget. Carl was an exceptional guide and was very patient with me and my friend, Wendy. In four hours, we caught close to 30+ fish. BIG fish. My trophy fish was about a 23" rainbow trout. I would highly recommend Carl's guide services.

Thank you, Carl, and I will be back to fish with you soon!"

It was my best day of fishing ever! Carl is not only a great fishing guide but he made the day so much fun with his terrific sense of humor. My friend and I caught one fish (trout) after another. It was a beautiful day and Carl took us to a very plentiful place on the river and kept us reeling in the fish!

Thanks Carl!

What a day, during my professional Rodeo career I've had the pleasure to fish all over the US and Canada. I had no idea this caliber of fishing was so close. Carl was not only a great guide but a gentleman, with the patience of a saint. I had two thirteen year old boys with me that spent more time in the tree's than in the water. I could not have scripted a better day of fishing , not only were the numbers good but the amount of fish we caught over 20 inches unbelievable. The final go round was to catch a Big Golden, I think Carl tied on every fly in his bag until we caught one. Thanks again looking forward to our next trip.

Carl came highly recommended and he lived up to his reputation. I took my wife fly-fishing for the first time and Carl was excellent in teaching a beginner. His approach and helpful hints really made the day a success for us.. Carl knows the area around the Blowing Rock, NC having been a guide there for many years. His equipment is first rate and his constant, active approach to fishing really paid off in bringing in the trout.

We had a great fishing trip with Carl. I am a novice fisherman and he was very patient and helpful. I learned a lot and, most importantly, caught a lot of fish.

We absolutely love spending our day fly fishing with Carl. Carl taught me to fly fish when I first moved to the mountains of North Carolina. Each and every time, with Carl as our guide we have caught beautiful large trout. Carl always knows just where the fish are biting. The experience of fly fishing will always stay in our hearts. My 9 year old son, Kehler is a huge fan of fishing and we treated him to a day on the water with Carl. He was star struck at Carl's ability to teach him how to successfully pull trout after trout out of the stream. In Kehler's words, "that was amazing, wading in the creek and being able to get so close to the fish we caught, Hey Mom, is Carl a Fish Whisper??

Had a wonderful day on the stream with Carl...he is able to read his client as well as the water. If you want help, he'll give it, if you want to thrash away on your own, he'll let you... I always felt comfortable & incidentally caught a lot of big fish!

One of my most memorable times is my recent first fishing trip with Carl; that is say: my first ever time fishing. Carl was great at picking flies and changing spots and lures when the fishing dropped off. I guess knowing those things is the intimidating part of fly fishing because we caught a lot of trout, but laughed the hardest at the biggest one, which we netted. Carl is a good teacher and preps you well. Whether you are a novice or experienced fisherman, just listen to him and enjoy.

Fly-fishing is one of those things that I always thought I'd enjoy, but for whatever reason, never got around to. On a trip to Blowing Rock last November, Bob Timberlake arranged for Carl to take me out and it was one of the best days of my life. I have a couple of friends who are serious anglers and they were green with envy by the photos of the trout a novice like me caught with Carl's help.

My son and I fished with Carl at the Refuge in Oct. 2011. Between us, in a half-day of fishing, we caught and released over 20 fish. Carl is among the most knowledgeable, friendly and professional guides I have fished with, and I've fished with many.

Carl was the first fishing guide I ever had. My father had taken me to Chetola to celebrate my 50th birthday and spending it on the river with him and Carl was the most a girl could ask for! I had a fabulous time and caught so many fish I lost count! Carl is so knowledgeable and patient. I learned so much from him and he totally made me feel comfortable. I felt like a pro by the time my trip was over. Thanks, Carl! This was a trip I will never forget!

I've fished in many parts of the world, often with guides; but, none of them found me such great fish, in such pleasant surroundings, and in such good company. I think the best compliment I can give Carl is that I would fish with him anytime, anywhere!

We had not had a family trip in over 25 years!!! He talked about those huge trophy trout he caught and that beautiful water every time we got together. Thank you for making our last family trip together, Awesome!!!!!!

Tenkara Fly Fishing

Try Action Packed Trip of a Lifetime, Ancient Japanese Tenkara Fly Fishing

New

Tenkara is the traditional Japanese method of fly-fishing where only a rod, line and fly are used. Tenkara is about fly-fishing simplicity and mountain-stream effectiveness. Eleven to fourteen foot long rods allow anglers to fish mountain streams in a way that is nearly impossible with western fly gear. Telescopic rods collapse down to a mere 20 inches, and few things are needed making tenkara ideal for backpacking. Tenkara is perfect for those in search of a pure, effective and simpler method of fly-fishing.

Letter from David L. Hughes

Dear Carl,
I finally got around to getting my film developed and this one enlarged. It was the best of them and the trout looks most like a 5 pounder in it... maybe we don't have to lie about it! That day with you and James is still the highlight of my fishing year. I haven't much chance to get out since. Best, Dave
